Twitter approached me to design their “Blueroom” in their Santa Monica Headquarters and wanted something with an LA beach theme. I pitched them on creating a laser cut, LED lit, layered acrylic, psychedelic sunset installation that was inspired by 80’s Venice surf and skate graphics, and they loved the direction.
My team and I went to work on figuring out how to build this massive, 6 ft custom installation that was gonna be programmed with a total of 21 different animations. The Sun is 72 inches in diameter, consists of three layers of stacked laser cut acrylic that is edge lit with LED lighting, and weighs about 175 lbs. The areas that are engraved on the acrylic come to life with light when the LEDs are turned on. We programmed 7 different animations for the Twitter team to use when using the Blueroom to entertain guests. This was a super fun project and I learned so much on this one. Thanks to Twitter for trusting in my vision. Huge thanks to my team (Kathryn Barron & Todd Moyer) for helping me bring this to life.
